Calculation methods & sources
HomeMeasureCalc calculators are planning tools. Results are calculated from the values and options entered; they are not measurements of a property, product specifications, or professional approval of a project.
How to check a result
- Review the units beside every input and output before comparing values.
- Use the formula and worked example on the calculator page to follow the arithmetic.
- Check what the tool includes, such as a waste allowance, and what it leaves out.
- Compare the estimate with product packaging, manufacturer instructions, project plans, and local requirements before buying or building.
Calculations may round quantities up where whole packages or items are needed. The exact assumptions and rounding behavior depend on the calculator; use its own explanation rather than assuming every tool treats waste or partial packages the same way.
Sources for selected guidance
External sources below support specific health or design context. They do not certify a calculator result or replace current product instructions and local rules.
- CDC: Home Pool and Hot Tub Water Treatment and Testing— public-health guidance on testing chlorine and pH in pools and hot tubs. See the pool chemical calculatorfor its rate assumptions and limitations.
- CDC: Preventing Eye Irritation from Pool Chemicals— information on chloramines and irritation around pools. Chemical handling and dose instructions must still come from the specific product label.

It is not a substitute for current local code, an approved project design, or the installation schedule for a specific connector. See thedecking and framing project guide.
